Frequently Asked Questions

Still have questions whether breathwork is for you? You're not alone - here we answer a few of the 'what', 'how', 'who' and 'when'

Michelle has answers to your questions

What is breathwork?

Breathwork is the fastest-growing section of the health and wellness industry. Styles such as Holotropic and Euphoric, which dive into the subconscious and clear blockages, as well as down-regulating breath styles to soothe the nervous system, are used as therapy to help people move from living in fight-flight mode into a calmer and more connected state of being. It has a huge impact on physical and mental health.

How does it work?

A full breathwork journey of 45 minutes taps into the theta brainwave state, where our suppressed memories are stored. When guided to do so, it can be used to lift up and release trauma as well as reprogram the reticular activating system which filters our reality and keeps us stuck in limiting patterns. And it's excellent for releasing stress and tension, both mental and emotional.

In a 45-minute session, the breather enters a state known as transient hypofrontality also known as flow state, where their monkey mind shuts down and they enter a state of bliss. While in this state, they may also receive some helpful insight.

What are the benefits?

My clients have recounted how breathwork has liberated them from barriers to health, love, effective communication, and to breaking free of living to work and missing out on the lifestyle they want. Breathwork can dive in and work its magic inside of you in one or a few sessions without you having to talk about what’s troubling you or analyse it.

What should I expect?

It's common for people with addictions, PTSD, anxiety & depression to have a full healing in a 45 minutes breathwork session! Very common.

The session may leave you feeling:

·       Blissed out

·       Relief from stress & anxiety

·       You may see images that help you heal something relevant to you

·       A recent stress may rise to the surface and be released. When this happens, it's common for you to receive insight into the stressor, which gives you closure.

When stressed, we are often only breathing into the upper chest which activates the sympathetic nervous system. In all breathwork sessions, we breathe into the belly, which activates the parasympathetic nervous system, bringing you out of your head and into your body which can provide major relief.

Who is it for?

Breathwork is very safe, although there are a few contraindications that need to be discussed with Michelle first.  If you fall under any of the below categories, check with your doctor for clearance first. Michelle can then give you a particular breath style that is safe and effective for you. Contraindications are for anyone who:

·       Is pregnant.

·       Has high blood pressure.

·       Has a history of seizures.

·       Is taking heavy-duty mental health medication.

·       Has osteoporosis.

·       Asthmatics (need to bring their inhaler).

Still have questions?

Regardless if you have contraindications or not, some people still feel fearful about diving into breathwork as it’s unfamiliar and they are worried about what may happen to them during the session. If that’s you, watch this  breathwork video explanation.

If still unsure, get in touch with Michelle to discuss before you book your session. We want you to be super clear about the potential benefits that lie in stall when you let the breath work through you.

Still hesitant? Remember, no change happens in your comfort zone.
